I never knew before why the picture of that sculpture was nearly always present somewhere about you. I guess I never asked.

I finally found an image of Joan Mitchell’s “Untitled 1953-1954.” Most of what I appreciated about it cannot be perceived from such a small image. As a wall sized painting, it is much easier to see patterns within.

You do have good taste. That Hepworth statue is superb, and I can see exactly why it appeals to someone who loves the Gulf Islands.

Here’s a description of the box exhibition. I hope they’re recycled.

I think this is the Joan Mitchell painting, though there is no photo.

It took me ages to track down the sculpture I mentioned, since I recalled only its appearance and not who made it. Is is “Pelagos,” made in 1946 by Barbara Hepworth. I think it’s extremely elegant and I admire the organic form.

Isn’t it odd how that first image looks a lot bigger, even though they are all the same size? Belief and seeing are both often wrong.
