Donate art for Haiti

Ottawa Centre Member of Parliament Paul Dewar is collecting art, which will be sold to raise money for victims of the earthquake in Haiti. Local artists who want to donate something should get in touch with his office (Dewarp1@parl.gc.ca). All donations must be confirmed by February 5th. Only one work per person will be accepted.

The art will be sold on Tuesday, February 9th at the Cube Gallery, on 7 Hamilton Street. It will be on display as of 11:00am, with a sale starting at 6:00pm and an auction at 8:00pm. Some light snacks will apparently be provided.

I will be donating one of the remaining prints from my Raw Sugar photo exhibition.

[Update: 10:43am] An error was corrected in the post above. The date listed is now correct.

[Update: 2:23pm] Readers in Toronto may be interested in attending the Haitian relief fundraiser my friend Tristan is organizing. It is on Saturday, February 6th at 8:00pm. $10 will get you a buffet vegan dinner and the chance to hear music from Tyler Shipley and several other musical acts.

  1. This sounds good, but could you please double-check the date? February 8th is a Monday. Thanks.

  3. The long term effects of this quake are devastating! In the next 6 months, the World Food Programme says 2 million people will need food assistance to rebuild their lives. If you want to help and learn more about the crisis, go to: http://wfp.org/crisis/haiti or text FRIENDS to 90999 to make a $5 donation.

  5. First of all, please accept our apology for the lateness of this report. After the event on February 9th, there were many administrative details associated with the event that required immediate attention.

As Member of Parliament and on behalf of AfrikArt Konnexion and Cube Gallery who co-organized the Artists for Haiti fundraiser, I would like to thank you for your participation in the event. I am happy to let you know that, with your contribution, we raised over $10,000 on February 9th. This amount was matched by the Canadian government to a total of $20,100. All the funds will be used for emergency and long-term rebuilding needs of Haiti. We divided the money raised between the Canadian Red Cross and The Humanitarian Coalition (Oxfam-Canada, Oxfam-Québec, Save the Children Canada and Care Canada). Both organizations will be happy to issue tax receipts for artist contributions.
