I think I might be able to support myself through photography, but it’s an increasingly rotten line of work.

A couple of ideas:
-Run a small CSA operation, connecting farmers with people who want to buy their products. Focus on one neighbourhood, and deliver the produce by bicycle (get one of these: http://www.xtracycle.com/)
-Grow red wriggler worms (eisenia foetida) and sell them to people who wish to make worm compost. Sell worm boxes and teach courses as well. A staggering number of these worms can be grown in a very small space, and they can very effectively process organic waste indoors, ideal for urban dwellers. This species of worm can be shipped through the mail, as well
I am a lawyer, which in addition to being a profession is also a small business. For most lawyers, it does support a reasonable life style and has done so for my family and me.
