Doesn’t this fellowship require air travel? I thought you didn’t do that.
Would you have a choice in what area of policy you would engage in? It does sound like an interesting idea, but could you not influence policy more directly from within the government?

My thinking is that this would be an opportunity to try to convince some pretty important people to be more active in pushing for better climate change policies. In the long run, my hope is that that would more than negate the effects of the travel associated with the program.
If I got in, I would also encourage them to hold the conferences in places that are as close as possible to where the fellows live.

I don’t think so. The broad direction of policy is set by politicians. Civil servants just do the implementation.
As such, if the broad direction of policy favoured by the party in power is problematic, there is little or nothing that a civil servant can (and arguably should) do about it.
