In the last few weeks, as the weather has become pleasant, the roof of the Beaver Barracks has become an appealing place to spend time. Right now, the roof of 160 Argyle is just bare wooden planks. I know they are eventually planning to have planters and things up there. That will be pleasant, and may provide a welcome pretext for neighbours to get to know one another a bit more.
I hope they put a couple of benches up there. It could also be a nice place to play some evening chess games.

In the spring of 2005, I graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in International Relations and a general focus in the area of environmental politics. In the fall of 2005, I began reading for an M.Phil in IR at Wadham College, Oxford.
Outside school, I am very interested in photography, writing, and the outdoors. I am writing this blog to keep in touch with friends and family around the world, provide a more personal view of graduate student life in Oxford, and pass on some lessons I've learned here.

Sounds excellent. Rooftop gathering spots are quite attractive and provide a sense of community. I have found that I spend consider time in yard and deck doing things that I normally would be doing inside this time of year.
Can you post a picture?
Roof gardens are al the rage and they provide a peaceful getaway in the city. I visited the art in the garden show recently and one home had an amazing vegetable garden on their roof complete with a bee hive (more like a bee box). The bees don’t seem to bother anyone and the family harvests considerably more food and has honey for the winter. All the water for watering came from rain barrels.
Is the rooftop at Beaver Barracks having significant use of late? We have a small deck outside our kitchen. It is one of my favourite places to be.
When I pass a residential building with balconies I will often observe adn occasionally count how many of them have residents sitting on them. I am often struck by how few that is even in excellent weather. Such an underutilized amenity.
Will any of this be in place for this summer?
I believe it will be in place this summer
