St. Hilda’s, University of Toronto

Author: Milan

In the spring of 2005, I graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in International Relations and a general focus in the area of environmental politics. In the fall of 2005, I began reading for an M.Phil in IR at Wadham College, Oxford. Outside school, I am very interested in photography, writing, and the outdoors. I am writing this blog to keep in touch with friends and family around the world, provide a more personal view of graduate student life in Oxford, and pass on some lessons I've learned here.

  1. Thanks.

Getting your website hacked is a bit like living in a giant mansion with 1000 doors and waking up one morning to find lethal traps hidden in a few rooms. Removing the traps is the easy part. The hard part is figuring out how someone got in to put them in place, and how to stop them from doing it again.

I am not 100% sure how the hack happened in this case, but I think it may have been because I was running an old version of MediaWiki with an unusual page restriction plugin. The whole wiki is still shut down for now, and I am watching my server logs for signs of malicious activity.
