In the spring of 2005, I graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in International Relations and a general focus in the area of environmental politics. In the fall of 2005, I began reading for an M.Phil in IR at Wadham College, Oxford. Outside school, I am very interested in photography, writing, and the outdoors. I am writing this blog to keep in touch with friends and family around the world, provide a more personal view of graduate student life in Oxford, and pass on some lessons I've learned here.

  1. Neko Case is so darn cool. I don’t like her solo stuff as much as her work with the New Pornographers (awesome Vancouver band) but she is still one of the coolest people in rock and roll.

Her last album had an obnoxious title though.

  2. The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You has some good tracks, but it’s definitely not her best album.

Both Middle Cyclone and Fox Confessor Brings the Flood are rather wonderful and, as you say, she has done some great collaborations.

  3. I agree about “Deep Red Bells”.

Some of my other favourite Neko Case songs are:

    • “Hold On, Hold On”
    • “Fox Confessor Brings the Flood”
    • “The Needle Has Landed”
    • “This Tornado Loves You”
    • “Polar Nettles”
    • “Prison Girls”
    • “Red Tide”
    • “If You Knew”
    • “The Virginian”
    • and “Letter from an Occupant” (with the New Pornographers)
