Man reading in wheelchair

Author: Milan

In the spring of 2005, I graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in International Relations and a general focus in the area of environmental politics. Between 2005 and 2007 I completed an M.Phil in IR at Wadham College, Oxford. I worked for five years for the Canadian federal government, including completing the Accelerated Economist Training Program, and then completed a PhD in Political Science at the University of Toronto in 2023.

  1. Really Anon?

    Exploitative Poverty Porn?

If that were the case, 80% of international photographers are in fact pornographers.

People take photos of people doing things all the time. If the person was in a wheelchair, and not homeless, would you call it “exploitative ableist photography?”

I think you are just picking a fight.

  2. Respectful portrayals of those in poverty may contradict their tendency to be unseen by those who are better off.

  3. A great photo; reading is an escape and an adventure for all of us. All humans share the same needs. I see the photo more as a thoughtful pause.
