Vancouver visit: September 6-23rd

Cows and power lines

Happy Birthday Dad

Contrary to my expectations, it seems that I will be returning to Vancouver between the two years of my M.Phil after all: between the 6th and the 23rd of September. I am naturally very excited about the prospect of seeing my brothers and parents, as well as friends in Vancouver.

People who are likely to be around should leave a comment or send me an email and we can sort out times to meet. Having some kind of general gathering for friends of mine in North Van is also a very strong possibility.

An hour ago, I thought it would be summer 2007 before I saw Vancouver again. Now, I will be there in less than a month.

In the spring of 2005, I graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in International Relations and a general focus in the area of environmental politics. In the fall of 2005, I began reading for an M.Phil in IR at Wadham College, Oxford. Outside school, I am very interested in photography, writing, and the outdoors. I am writing this blog to keep in touch with friends and family around the world, provide a more personal view of graduate student life in Oxford, and pass on some lessons I've learned here.

  1. I’d like to meet up when you’re in town. Drop me an e-mail when you have a bit of a better idea when you’ll be free!

  2. This is ex-Debate president, ex-porn czar (we will never let you forget that) Tim, yes?

I will definitely let you know.

  3. Huzzah! I just received your email and thought I would leave a quick note (since dial up in Ahousat is varied at best) and behold you are coming back?!? Strange days, but good news indeed. Watch for a small novella in your inbox.

  4. Kate,

It’s great to hear from you. I hoped you were off in the wilds, though I wasn’t sure whether you were in a lab or a classroom instead.

Perhaps we will have the chance to meet somewhere, during my return to the west coast.

  5. You get to go home? Good news indeed! I am very pleased for you. How did this surprising turn of events come about? The gift of some air miles? A wedding to attend?

If you have a connecting flight that comes via, say, New York, you will have to stop off for a day en route!

Ps- i had dinner with Doug Gillman lastnight in an impossibly fancy restaurant in Brooklyn. Small World.

  6. Claire,

Alas, our paths are not to cross at that juncture. My Zoom Airlines flight will drop me off for only an hour in Calgary, on the way over. Their planes are very cramped, but a return ticket for slightly less than the value of a Senior Scholarship can’t be easily beaten.

    How was the dinner?
