In the spring of 2005, I graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in International Relations and a general focus in the area of environmental politics. Between 2005 and 2007 I completed an M.Phil in IR at Wadham College, Oxford. I worked for five years for the Canadian federal government, including completing the Accelerated Economist Training Program, and then completed a PhD in Political Science at the University of Toronto in 2023. The photo intrigues me for a the combination of factors:
1. steel road bike, almost vintage in age
2. mass manufacturer (Norco)
3. looks like a fairly tight gear ratio
4. seems to be well maintained
5. yet locked outside.
Last week I met three riders who are part of a group that rides vintage steel bikes on Sunday and meet up for coffee in the Calabria Restaurant on Commercial Drive in Vancouver. They feel that it is like being in Italy.
